How Has Ruby Blown Your Mind? Blog Your Answer And Win!

By Peter Cooper / February 1, 2007

Apress-1

This month I'm the guest judge and challenge provider of On Ruby and Apress's "Ruby Blogging Contest". The challenge question is "How has Ruby blown or stretched your mind?" If you blog your answer to that, you could win three free books from Apress. There's a bit more to it than that though, so check out the challenge in full and get thinking.
All you have to do is blog about how Ruby has blown or stretched your minds (the more citation of actual language features or constructs the better) and then post a link to your blog post in the comments section of this page. If you win the contest, you get the choice of three books from technical publishers, Apress. Apress have hundreds of books covering the gamut of programming knowledge on offer, and are also the publishers of my forthcoming book, "Beginning Ruby: From Novice to Professional."

I'm really looking forward to seeing what people have been really surprised and excited by in Ruby, especially if I can learn a few new tricks myself! If you're more of a reader than a writer though, or if you don't even have a blog, perhaps the entries to last month's contest, "How has Ruby on Rails made you a better programmer?" will make interesting reading for you.

Don't you have anything better to do with your time?

  2. Peter Cooper says:

    Do you? :)

  3. Pat Eyler says:

    Jim,
Let's see: on Thursday, after work I helped my son with his science schoolwork; on Friday after work, I made honey/chili/lime shrimp and pistachios for my wife and I to eat while we read 'The Praise of Folly' (Erasmus) and "Phantastes" (George MacDonald) to each other; on Saturday, I spent the day doing community emergency response training; and then on Sunday it was church, a youth group leadership meeting, and then making dinner for friends we had over. Co-mingled with this wer a couple of blog posts and running this contest.

Hmm, looks like I was plenty able to do this and take time to something better with my time.
